I’m on the Radio

In the opening scene of Disney Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc,” Mike Wasowski and James P. Sullivan are sitting on a couch watching TV. What’s playing on that TV? An advertisement for Monsters Incorporated, Monstropolis’ top power company, infamous for using the screams of children as electricity.

Nonetheless, at the end of this advertisement, the pre-recorded Wasowski and Sullivan appear on the TV screen to deliver the closer…

We’re working for a better tomorrow, today!” says TV Sully.

Yet, right as this is happening, the corporation logo appears on the screen and completely covers TV Wasowski! All the viewer can see from TV Mike are his little green arms and legs, and before you even know it, the advertisement is finished.

Thus, having been robbed of his stardom, real Wasowski pauses for a moment then utters these words…

I can’t believe itI’m on TV!”

Well, this week I wasn’t on TV; But instead, I and four other coworkers had an amazing opportunity to go on “Talk the Talk” with Bill Newman and Buz Eisenberg on WHMP Radio.

So, I can’t believe it… I’m on the radio!

On the radio we talked about food justice, youth empowerment, urban agriculture, and all things Gardening the Community. And if you don’t know about Gardening the Community (GTC), Gardening the Community is a non-profit food justice organization engaged in youth development, urban agriculture, and sustainable living to build healthy and equitable communities; and for the last two years, it’s been my place of work.

Thus, with GTC I’ve had the amazing opportunity to work alongside farmers, policy makers, and most importantly, Black and Brown youth, to grow healthy and nutritious food for the betterment of the city of Springfield; and I’ve absolutely loved it. Yet, instead of reading from me, I highly encourage you to just listen to our radio segment online, and you can do that by simply clicking here! If you’re interested in learning more about my experience at GTC, feel free to snoop around this site, and I’m sure you’ll find something else about it!

Regardless, I hope you enjoy listening to me on the radio! It was a really fun experience, and maybe one day I’ll find myself back on the radio again!
